About the Division

The Department of Chemistry at Washington State University is composed of three research focus areas: Chemistry of Biological Systems, Chemistry of Materials, and Chemistry of Energy and the Environment. The Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry supports the Chemistry of Biological Systems, which studies reactivity in biological systems and the application of chemical techniques to understand and manipulate the molecules in living systems. Very broadly, faculty explore:

  • Protein molecular recognition/interactions and foldamer interactions
  • Molecular design & synthesis of drugs and their metabolic disposition
  • Neurochemistry of small molecules, their receptors, and transporters
  • Separations and mass spectrometry for proteomics and metabolomics

The Chemistry of Biological Systems is quickly becoming one of the University’s areas of Research Preeminence. The Chemistry Department, including the Division of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry is located in the Fulmer Complex on the main campus. For driving directions or campus maps, see WSU's Visitor's Center.
