Research
Our group focuses on the synthesis of small molecules of biological importance. Currently we are collaborating with the Jeff Jones’ group to design and synthesis small molecule tight binders to the cytochrome P450 family of enzymes as well as the enzyme aldehyde oxidase, an increasing important enzyme in drug metabolism. Study of these interactions will help elucidate enzyme mediated metabolism of drugs and help reduce adverse drug-drug interactions. Additionally, isotopically labeled substrates are synthesized to investigate enzyme mechanisms via kinetic isotope effects. Working in our group provides students with experience in traditional and organometallic (including inert atmosphere techniques) synthesis and spectroscopic methods of analysis.
